#Throwback to last Saturday, just before doors opened for the big night. And what a night it was!
Our sincerest thanks, from the bottom of our hearts go out to everyone that made this event possible: From everyone that came out, to our amazing helpers, Mizucat with her beautiful art, Digital Retro Park and their games, and obviously our incredible artists and new friends MightyGlen, Morgan Willis, Futurecop! and VHS Dreams – you all make these events so very special.
While we are back to normal life, we will think back to this day for a looong time to come. 💕
For the rest of the year we will be recharging and prepping for the new year and might not be as active. We are looking forward to kickstart 2019 with you!
.

As a child, I grew up sitting in front of a computer by myself.
That is where I learnt about music; playing video games and watching endless reruns of cartoons and American TV shows.
Television gave me shelter when I was alone, nursed me with Hollywood’s mythologies.
It guided me through nameless countries; with it I brought down colossuses and climbed mountains.
I preached its beliefs. But when I grew up, all my heroes died.
Today, I still come to mourn in deserted movie theatres.
There, lights flash before my eyes.
But I don’t feel anything in face of the latest blockbusters and their visual explosions,
these chaotic clusters where Mechas and Kaijus pile up in between fights under the rain,
tsunamis and apocalyptic scenes… Yet I feel numb, except for the roaring sub-basses that fill the void of cinemas.
My music is for those who, like me, have grown up amongst the ruins of blockbusters. For them my bass trembles and my synths screech.
But I know that beyond this digital coldness lie other horizons, other possibilities.

Powernerd – Brainwave Accelerator

It’s heeere! Our friends @powernerd_official finally released their new EP “Brainwave Accelerator” today on @electronic_purification_rex !!! We have been eagerly awaiting this little gem and have not been disappointed. It’s 100 % pure Powernerd, with a little awesome twist here and there. We are especially in love with the title track with it’s heavy and catchy bass line that overall brings a much more menacing tone to the Powernerd repertoire. Buy it on Bandcamp or at epr-music.com!

Dana Jean Phoenix – Pixeldust
EN/DE
It has been a little while since our last album review, which doesn’t mean that there haven’t been a number of great releases out since then. One of the more recent of these releases is @danajeanphoenix ‘s fourth studio album “PixelDust”. While not quite making it into the list of our favorite Synthwave albums of the year, it is a thoroughly well-crafted piece of 80s-inspired electronica.
The album is an intricate mixture of highly dancefloor-compatible, upbeat tunes and dreamy, emotional ballads. The first standout track of the album is the highly energetic “Red Line”. This song is simply made for dancing, and will surely become a regular not only on our party playlist. “Only for One Night” (produced by the Austrian @powernerd_official powerhouse) and “I’ll Rescue You” are probably the catchiest songs of the album, with melodies that get stuck in your head for days and days – we didn’t really mind. With “Lost Touch” and “Funky Fly Free”, Dana shows us her funky side, and boy, she does it well. We wouldn’t mind a song or two more in this direction, because everything just falls into place so nicely in these two songs. The song of the album, however, for us goes to “Iron Fist”. Produced by @straplocked who recently released a killer album himself), this track is full-on 80s rock and roll nostalgia – straight out of our wildest action movie fantasies. Pure perfection. While we are not crazy for synth-ballads, the title track “PixelDust” is simply beautiful and makes for a nice highlight towards the end of the record.
The music aside, our favorite thing about this album is the amazing artwork by Lee Occleshaw. The last time we saw pixel art at this level of perfection was in Thimbleweed Park – Ron Gilbert would be proud. Interestingly, there was also a lot of pixel dust in that game….
Fans of female vocals and melodic synth-pop can’t go wrong with this.
Megaman Synthwave tribute
Another one of our childhood heroes has recently got a full-on synthesizer soundtrack makeover: #megaman ! The little blue android with a cannon arm gave us many fun hours of gaming, but also strained our patience quite a bit with it’s ridiculous level of difficulty. If you, like us, love #retro games, synths and soundtracks go check it out!

Robert Parker – End of the Night
Our friend Robert Parker just dropped his new album “End of the Night”. As we are already accustomed to from him, we get presented with a beautifully crafted piece of art. We instantaneously get a feeling of vacation while listening. Compared to the previous albums, “End of the Night” has more vocal tracks, which we personally liked a lot – and a lot of them are extremely catchy. We can’t wait to hopefully hear the new material live soon!
